NAMING
There is already a very good system of Vedic Numerology in place to choose the appropriate name for the child.
Here are the ground rules:
1. Find the strongest (use shadbala) and most auspicious Graha (see planets placements). Its Graha-aksharas as per the Akachatatapayasha varga should be used. This will ensure that the child attains the lifes path.
2. Among the aksharas of the Graha in choice, see which Aksharas are best placed from the Moon in the Hoda Chakra (Syllables placed in the Nakshatras). Prefer Kendra and Kona Rashis from the Moon to ENSURE good health and happiness for the child.
Based on steps 1 & 2 you should find the starting syllables for the child.
3. The number of syllables in the name should be based on the Lagna being Movable (2 syllables), Dual (3 syllables) or Fixed (4 syllables). I.e. San-ja-ya is three syllables and strengthens the dual signs, whereas Vi-sti is two syllables and strengthens the movable signs.

Then let the parents suggest a name based on these criteria. Still, I would suggest advising a name which is the same as that of the Ishta Devata, viz. if the starting syllable found is 'sa' and has to be three syllables, as the Istha Devata is Vishnu, then whilst going through the Vishnu Sahasranama you will find the name 'sanjaya'.

jyotish epistemology

Dear VJha

The moment I am leaving Guru-mantras the confusions are welcoming me with flowers and garlands :)

Rahu in trikona gives doubts and something what Srila Prabhupada calls 'overintelligence'. Its very good planet for material sciences and western philosophy but for branches like Veda, Vedanga, Upaveda where descending proccess of getting knowledge is involved Rahu can play a very negative role where one can question everyone and everything. This can lead to leaving Veda and Guru and starting some independent 'wild' branch. Therefore for other than Jyotisha tradition of astrology Rahu will be placed strongly in trikona to Navamsa as these were leaving the Veda and taking some parts of it whilst building some other system. Budha strives for never-ending arguments and thesis with no conclusion at least when Mars or Sun (Vedanta) are weak in the chart as Surya shows Vedanta per Jaimini.

Luckily I have Jupiter and Ketu in trikona to both Navamsa Lagna and Karakaamsa which blocks this Rahu in Lagna but still even in current periods many doubts are arising so the Guru mantras (like Vyasa mantra) are very important in the process of learning. The positive Rahu makes one researcher and collector of charts, these people are very innovative and inventing (like Sankha yoga). This becomes within rules of tradition if Jupiter is blessing or if one is strengthed by Guru-service, Guru-mantras, service to śastra/tradition and so on.

So we have : dogma and blind following without questioning (negative Ketu) and overintelligence, confusion and too many doubts signified by Rahu. The ballance is always akasha tattva rules by Jupiter so Guru is the focal point in all learning where Veda, Vedanga (Jyotish), Upaveda (Ayurveda) are included.

SPIRTIUALITY

Hare Rama Krishna

Dear Rafalji,

I heard with interest your lecture on Spirituality in the You Tube. The
lecture was very good.
For spirituality you said that the Rajas grahas Mercury and Venus should be
in the AL , 6th. from AL or 12th. from AL.
For Venus, and Mercury to be placed in AL is good. Rajasic grahas can be
placed in Kendra to AL and also in Panaphara to AL but lose their qualities
in Apoklima to AL. So they lose their qualities in 3,6,9, &12 from AL.
Can you please tell me why you have considered AL, 6th., &12th. from AL
only.?
For Spirituality the Lagna lord should have connection with Sun.If not
Jupiter should connect the lagna lord with the Sun.
What if Saturn, Venus and Ketu are in Trines in Rasi or Navamsa.?
Request you to kindly share your views.

Regards
M.R.Murali

Dear M.R.Murali,

Glad you like the spiritual-yogas tutorial.

1. Ninth from AL shows material benefits after transformation or initial challenges/destruction (tamas), it also shows all people eager to help the native. If Shani is there then one can depend on simple-minded people or general public just like Shani in 12H from AL can give politics as it give Surya effect on AL and shows spending on masses. Third, sixth, ninth and eleventh shows how you deal with raja guna, whilst twelfth from AL shows what is lost or given up (if connected to Arudhalagna). Based on that the initial disposition towards two forces of rajas namely financial and comforts illusion is seen by third and sixth from AL, whilst concious or unconcious renouncement is seen from 12 from AL. Arudha lagna is important because it shows your stance towards tides of society and also disposition towards life (self-projection).
2. Ve+Sa+Ke is tapaswi yoga and gives strong mind which can endure lot of suffering/penance; strong Surya is neccessary for all this kind of yogas, otherwise only appreciation for tapasya will be there. Sa+Ke can give adultery and fakeness, Ve+Sa can give material-focused austerities (lack of Ketu principle). Rasi shows circumstancial attitude, Navamsa shows real inner direction and blessings from Shukracarya and all the Gods blessing with austerities fruits.

Śastra approach

om gurave namah

Dear Geol sahib

Your doubt is very valid. Like Jaimini, Maharsi Parasara also assumed that those reading his hora shastra are very knowledgable already with the sadhaarana jyotirvidya. Alas today we are struggling to put togther bits of information, the links of which seem to be missing. That is why at such times it is better to respect the tradition until proven otherwise. What is tradition if not the practise of following the previous generation to the best of our abilities? Here there are two pitfalls (1) we assume that everything that the previous generation learnt, they learnt perfectly and (2) we assume thatwhatever they had to teach we learnt perfectly

In these dark days of Kali Yuga, such assumptions prove to be our failing and we have to constantly strive to improve upon them.

Firstly, when learning any classic of the level of Parasara we should know that every part of it is like a part of a complete, perfect body. This body of knowledge is in perfect harmony and is like the Kalapurusha Himself. Therefore there can be no conflict between one part of the body and another. A person who fails to perceive this is saying that his head went to office and his legs stayed behind! This failing will surely happen to those who learn with their own buddhi because they are guided by their own cultures, their own traditions and thinking processes which are the limiting factors to this high learning.

Secondly, we, the people living through the experience of Kali Yuga are like blind men touching different parts of the huge body of knowledge, like different parts of an elephant and saying elephant is like tree trunk (touch leg), no it is like a snake (trunk) ...and so on. And we shall continue to debate endlessly for none of us is wiser the other trying to belittle rather than share the knowledge so that we may complete the puzzle before us.

Thirdly, even if we are able to map every part of the elephant body (Jyotish knowledge), our little brains cannot comprehend the fathoms of knowledge in it for those parts which lie inside the body of the elephant are beyond the reach of those who seek to learn of it through the mere sense organs or touch, taste etc.

With all these limitations, those of us who at least try to follow the older generation are ina slightly advantageous point in that we at least know that we do not fully know. That does give us the advantage of constant learning. It gives us he advantage of humility. It gives us the advantage of the grace of the Guru ...and that for one like me, is heaven itself.

On a personal note, Goel ji. let not Mercury take you into endless debates as this is the esential rajasic nature of Mercury. Instead let him take you to the Bhagavat Gita. The same graha when dominated by different gunas will manifest differently in the karmas it contains. We always have the options, and here the option of sattva is simply *one mantra away* ...om namo bhagavate vasudevaya. In the end, let me simply say that if Parasara says that the nodes have dual lordships, then there must be a reason for saying so. We need to understand this from a deeper perspective. if Ketu did not rule Scorpio, then Kalachakra and kalachakra dasa would be defunct. This is just one example. And we know that kalachakra is based on the bha-chakra ...can keep on debating till 2019 Dec 25 ...or can leave it here and get along with the task I have started

parasara Jyotisa Course ...where I can finally put everything I learnt in the right perspective.

Thank you for bringing suhc a beautiful point to my notice. With much regards as always,

Pranaam.

 conditional dasas
Step 1: Atma's choice.
Each Daśā has a Kāraka. I.e. For ṣaṣṭihayani daśā the kāraka is Sun, for Dvisaptati its Moon, etc. All these Kāraka are given in the book Udu Daśā by Sanjay Rath.
That Kāraka which is best placed from the Atmakāraka (Kendra, Paṇaphara, Apoklima) is strongest. If multiple fulfill this criteria then go to the next step.
Step 2: Mana's choice.
If multiple Daśā fulfill the criteria for step 1, then choose the one among them which is ranked first in the list of conditional Daśā, i.e. first is Aṣṭottari, then ṣoḍaśottari, etc.
Yours sincerely, Visti Larsen
