A philosopher’s path
into Jyotiṣa.
In 1998, I was a philosophy student practicing Western astrology when Gaudīya Vaiṣṇavism and meditation opened the door to Indian thought. The encounter with Jyotiṣa — the forecasting system rooted in Vedic astronomy — changed everything I thought I knew about charts. Its timing systems were more precise. Its philosophy, deeper.
In 2004, I met my teacher Visti Larsen and was accepted into the Śrī Jagannāth Center — a school defined by a methodical, text-based approach, grounded in the main astrological śāstras, drawing on generations of research and insight, and centred on event-based forecasting. Its teachers are recognised giants of the tradition, carrying a line passed down from the royal astrologers of Odisha.
Over the years since, I completed the full arc of classical training: the Parāśara Horā Śāstra and a three-year Mantra Śāstra program under Paṇḍit Sanjay Rath, and the Jaimini Upadeśa Sūtra under Visti Larsen — with whom I have continued to exchange notes on charts and classical principles almost daily ever since, across every platform from Yahoo Groups to Skype to Telegram.
I live a vegan and drug-free lifestyle — I find it is in sync with the Jyotiṣa practice.

A living
tradition.
The Śrī Jagannāth Center preserves astrology as a branch of the Vedas — inseparable from mantra, mudrā, and spiritual practice. Four generations of teachers stand behind every reading I give.
Jagannāth Rath
Royal astrologer (Rāja Jyotiṣi) of Odisha. Known for austerity, deep scholarship, and the title Jyotish Ratna.
Kasinath Rath
Custodian of the Horā Śāstra tradition. Taught informally, shaping the next generation through oral transmission.
Paṇḍit Sanjay Rath
Trained from childhood by his uncle and grandfather. Founded the Śrī Jagannāth Center — integrating Jyotiṣa with mantra-śāstra, prāṇāyāma, and Sanātana Dharma. My teacher of Parāśara Horā Śāstra and the three-year Mantra Śāstra program.
Visti Larsen my direct teacher
Author of Jyotish Fundamentals. Teaches worldwide, grounding Jyotiṣa in classical sources and daily spiritual practice. Under him I studied the Jaimini Upadeśa Sūtra — and, for more than twenty years, we have exchanged notes on charts and classical principles almost daily: across Yahoo Groups, then email and Skype, now WhatsApp and Telegram.
